Maritime Customs Cruiser CHAHSING when in approximate position

latitude 22 degrees 25 minutes N. longitude 113 degrees

54 minutes E off Black Point was fired at by Japanese

destroyer number unknown from approximate position 022 degrees

28 minutes North 113 degrees 51 minutes East.

CHAHSING turned away from destroyer to make for

Urmston Roads and Castle Peak Bay and was shortly struck by

one richochet. Vessel was then run aground approximately half

a mile North East of Black Point and abandoned.

no casualties.

There were

Approximately four rounds were fired after

vessel was aground and 15 to 20 rounds were fired in all.

I have interviewed Commander of CHAHSING who is

positive that his osition as reported when fired at is

correct i.e. he was well within territorial waters.

Position

of Japanese destroyer on opening fire is approximate but she

was probably outside territorial waters. CHAHSING is vessel

148 feet long one funnel painted grey one three pounder

mounted forward and under Chinese Maritime customs flag.
